Advancing the technical communication profession in Upstate New York

Technical Graphics

Wednesday, May 3, 2023 – Join us for an illuminating discussion on the use of graphic illustrations in technical documentation. Ed’s passion for taking things apart and putting them back together, along with background in the aerospace and patent arenas, provides fuel for interesting conversation. There is no cost for STC members to attend, but a ticket is required. There is a nominal cost for non-members.

My name is Ed Perez, and I look forward to sharing with you a view of my corner of the world, Technical / Graphic Documentation. Probably one of the greatest challenges we all face is communication. A challenge which is even more complex when trying to explain, by either the written word or from my venue - graphics, how to tear down and rebuild either a toaster or a military aircraft. It has been, and continues to be, a fun ride, conveying through the use of graphics the art of visual communication. The purpose for me, is to be able to, with a single graphic make a Subject Matter Expert (SME) out of the person trying to resolve a repair issue, even if that person has had no prior experience. This purpose has provided the opportunity and need to absorb a great deal of information over the 20 plus years. The list started with Graphics Design, Medical Illustration, Architecture, Civil Eng., Log home design, Patent Illustration, Tech Illustration - mostly military aviation, Inventor, Children's Book author, and few other things in between. One of the fascinations is over how one industry, in essence, sets the design and building parameters for all the others, and it's continually evolving. No pressure, right?! I look forward to imparting in a very short hour as much as I can, the incredible amount of effort undertaken, to make easy, what is actually extremely difficult - Technical Illustration.
